HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU!

May we and all our loved ones be blessed this week.
And may we all give great thanks to God for the many blessings we receive.

WE WELCOME ALL VISITORS AND SEEKERS OF GOD TO OUR SERVICES AND EVENTS
ALL BAPTIZED CHRISTIANS ARE INVITED TO RECEIVE THE HOLY COMMUNION

LORD, LET US PRAY AND WORK TO HEAR YOUR WORD, CHANGE OUR HEARTS

AND GO FORTH TO DO YOUR WILL, EMPOWERED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT

Dear Friends, November 23, 2009

Yesterday, we again welcomed The Rev. Carolyn Lumbard. In her sermon, she noted that it was both St. Cecilia's Day and Christ The King Sunday. Christ was the King of Love, who challenged the leadership in his day and who challenges us today to be his heart and hands in a needful world.

Please listen to the voice that calls you to God's family - and pray daily, take part in weekly services, Sundays at 8 and 10 AM, and seek opportunities to be God's heart and hands. Invite a friend or neighbor...This coming Sunday, we begin the season of Advent, to prepare for Christ's coming to us in Bethlehem, and in our hearts.

Ascension Happenings Nov 9, 2009

Dear Friends, November 9, 2009

Yesterday, we again welcomed The Rev. Carolyn Lumbard. She spoke on the Gospel theme of the Widow's Mite - and how that relates to us. Do we give willingly - do we see the giving of our resources as a gift of God's people to the community and to the world? We can look in the mirror and ask that question.

Please listen to the voice that calls you to God's family - and pray daily, take part in weekly services, Sundays at 8 and 10 AM, and seek opportunities to be God's hands and arms. Invite a friend or neighbor...

Saturday's Roast Beef Dinner was a delicious success and made for many happy faces. We welcomed friends who had attended the Blessing of the Animals. Special thanks to all who worked and served and to all who attended!

Remember our servicemen and women in your prayers. Their names are in the bulletin each week. Pray for the ill and those who are shut in.

Please help! There are still chances to host Coffee Hour: Nov 15, Dec 6, 20 or 27. Please call the office 458-5423 to offer. Coffee Hour is great fellowship, as we meet friends old and new.

Meals on Wheels needs help in deliveries of noon meals - daily, weekly or seasonally. If you can assist, please call 787-8326. Lives depend on these meals, which take about an hour to deliver.

A Meal and More asks us to save coupons for toothpaste. Leave them in the back of the Church, please. Gifts of toothpaste go in the Tower Room. Aaron Manor again seeks your spare new calendars. Please leave them in the Office.

MEEK will help hungry families at the Holidays with food - and 75 turkeys for Christmas. Kindly call Jan Wills 621-3900 or Sally Green 865-1125 to donate a turkey. They are coming on sale now. Families are depending on these. Please bring in stuffing mixes, canned fruit and veggies, cranberry sauce, salad dressings and boxed jello. Place in Tower Room.

Please visit or call a friend who is not able to get out or whom you've been meaning to call. There are many who would love a phone call and an invitation to church or an inquiry as to when you might pay a visit.

Paul Schwartz has begun a Tuesday 9 AM Bible Study....There are now two Bible Studies each week. All are welcome at the Tuesday and the Thursday sessions at 9 AM, for Bible Study and fellowship. There is no homework, but lots of conversation, and a warm atmosphere. We look for the meaning of the gospel lessons in our lives and for the parish. This week we will read the passage shown below. By studying the stories, we learn our work and deepen our faith in Christ.

The Church is very beautiful in the upcoming season of Advent, when we prepare for the coming of Christ at Christmas. Volunteers are requested to set up on Sat, Nov 28 @ 9AM. Contact Jerry Welcher: jswelcher@aol.com or 392-8702 or cell 451-4052. Good fun! Don't be bashful!

Advance Calendar Notes: The Ascension Women's Group Christmas Luncheon will be Thurs, Dec 10 at Rick's Prime Rib, Buffalo Rd. Please call Jan Wills for details 621-3900. And....
The annual All-Welcome Ascension Deck-the-Halls Christmas Party will be on Sunday, Dec 13 after the 10 AM service. Mark you calendar, please, even though it seems early!! Details to follow.

Call a friend and invite her or him to church next Sunday and also to an upcoming parish event. For many people, all it takes to answer God's call is the voice of a friend. Won't you be that voice?

A congregation first grows individually in the heart of each faithful person, and only then it can spread. If we want to grow, we must love God, love our friends and then speak to them. God will help us share the Bread of Life.....

Do you have a pocket card to hand to a friend who asks about Ascension? Cards are available in the back of the church. Please take a few, and be ready to share. We have pocket crosses on order to hand to those who answer the call to "Come and See"..

Blessings, all best, and great peace,.....See you on Sunday!

Mark 13:1-8
13:1 As he came out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, "Look, Teacher, what large stones and what large buildings!"

13:2 Then Jesus asked him, "Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone will be left here upon another; all will be thrown down."

13:3 When he was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked him privately,

13:4 "Tell us, when will this be, and what will be the sign that all these things are about to be accomplished?"

13:5 Then Jesus began to say to them, "Beware that no one leads you astray.

13:6 Many will come in my name and say, 'I am he!' and they will lead many astray.

13:7 When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed; this must take place, but the end is still to come.

13:8 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. This is but the beginning of the birthpangs.

LET US SHOW GOD'S LIGHT TO OTHERS THIS WEEK AND ALWAYS.
