Ascension Happenings 8-3-2009

Dear Friends

August 3, 2009

This Sunday,
with a large gathering, we enjoyed a fine sermon by Fr Dan, as he reminded us again that relationships matter and that we are responsible for one another.  This was especially meaningful in the Service of Baptism for Kiley Jane Harris, whom we welcomed into the
fellowship of Christ.  The
Ascension Piecemakers gave a baptismal
quilt to the newly baptized, presented by Fr Dan.  We also welcomed back
Carol Manuel as our guest organist for four weeks this month, and her husband Bruce.

Yesterday was also
Angel Appreciation Day.
Organized by Jan Wills and others, Angel was the guest of honor at a luncheon
and reception following the 10 AM service.  He beamed to see all his
friends enjoy a delicious array of food in the library, topped off with a huge
cake, - all to celebrate his presence and work in our parish
family.

Ascension
Day at the Ballpark
on Sunday, August 23rd is the next opportunity to
celebrate the ministry of Fr Dan among us.  Price is $8.00 per ticket,
starting at 1:35 PM.
Call the Office at 458-5423 to reserve
or use the sign-up sheet at the rear of the church.  Fun for
all!

Please help with the C-D of memories for Dan and
Ginny.

you have pictures with the names and dates of people, or memories to contribute,
please call Mike at 820-3912 or email him at

Your news and articles are invited for the September

call or email attachments to Mary Ann Pino in church office, M-Th
9-2.

Visit or call a friend who is not able to get out and whom
you've been meaning to call.  There are many who would love a phone call
and an invitation to church or an inquiry whether you might pay a visit.

Please join us on Thursday at 9 AM for the
weekly Bible Study and fellowship.  There is no homework, but lots of good
conversation.  And Angel often prepares a treat.  We look for the
meaning of the gospel lessons in our lives.  This week we will read the
passage below the signature line.

Call a friend and invite her or
him
to church next Sunday and also to an upcoming parish event.
Let your mustard seed grow and
grow...
For many people, all
it takes to answer God's call  is the voice of a friend.
  Won't
you be that voice to a friend?
If we want to grow, we must speak to our
friends.
God will help us...
By doing so, we will share the
Bread of Life.....

Blessings, all best, and great
peace,

Dyson

John 6:35, 41-51
6:35
Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be
hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

6:41 Then the
Jews began to complain about him because he said, "I am the bread that came down
from heaven."

6:42 They were saying, "Is not this Jesus, the son of
Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can he now say, 'I have come down
from heaven'?"

6:43 Jesus answered them, "Do not complain among
yourselves.

6:44 No one can come to me unless drawn by the Father who
sent me; and I will raise that person up on the last day.

6:45 It is
written in the prophets, 'And they shall all be taught by God.' Everyone who has
heard and learned from the Father comes to me.

6:46 Not that anyone has
seen the Father except the one who is from God; he has seen the
Father.

6:47 Very truly, I tell you, whoever believes has eternal
life.

6:48 I am the bread of life.

6:49 Your ancestors ate the
manna in the wilderness, and they died.

6:50 This is the bread that comes
down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die.

6:51 I am the
living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live
forever; and the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my
flesh."
